Pioneer Lakeshore Division III Tournament

Hello OMW Supporters,

The original schedule for the Annual Pioneer Tournament at Lakeshore, AL didn’t go as planned. The Jacksonville Brooks Ballers dropped out at the last minute so it went from Pool Play to a Round Robin Tournament. That meant we played every team in the Division 3 bracket one time – winner take all. So 3 games on Friday, 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. I posted the results of each game on our FB page, but if you missed it here are the write-ups for each game.

FRIDAY GAME 1: Cold start on a cold morning in Alabama. Magic Wheels & Arkansas Rollin' Razorbacks tied at half time. Then, with no shots dropping, we just couldn't pull ahead and ended up losing 29-27. On the plus side, our defense held them under 30. FRIDAY GAME 2: Close 1st half vs the Philadelphia Magee Sixers, but we pulled away from them in the 3rd quarter. Final score Magic Wheels 42 Magee Sixers 14. So far, 1 win 1 loss today with our last game coming up against the Tampa Bay Strong Dogs. FRIDAY GAME 3: Last game of the day against the Tampa Bay Strong Dogs. We had a big lead in the 1st half but they got close towards the end with a press. However, we outlasted Tampa & won 49-38 to finish 2 & 1 for today. Tomorrow, we face a very fast Lakeshore team & finish Saturday against Charlotte.

SATURDAY GAME 1: This morning's game against a very young & very fast Lakeshore team saw them press us the whole game. Even so we were able to keep up and took a 10 point lead into half time. Then we held on when they made a run in the 3rd period and finally took command of the game. Final score Orlando Magic Wheels 55 Lakeshore Storm 41. We are now 3 & 1 with Charlotte as our last game later today. SATURDAY GAME 2: Final game of the day, we wrapped up with the Charlotte Rollin' Hornets. Another young & fast team with a really good shooter. This kid was only 14 years old, but he had most of their points shooting them from the outside. Our team is a little more balanced. Anyway, we ended up winning with everyone playing. Score: Magic Wheels 62 - Charlotte 33. SUNDAY GAME 1: This ended up being the Championship game for Division 3 with the Shepherd Stealers at 5-0, and the Orlando Magic Wheels at 4-1 going in. This started out as a tight ball game and stayed that way throughout with Shepherd going up by 4 after the 1st quarter. Then a strong comeback had the Magic Wheels up 29-27 at halftime. After halftime, we came out flat and had a turnover heavy 3rd period and were down 39-37 going into the 4th. It was a very wild finish but we did get the last shot. Unfortunately, it fell just short. Final score Shepherd Stealers 46 Orlando Magic Wheels 45. We had an excellent weekend with only 2 losses and those were by a combined total of 3 points.

Awards for Division 3 - Magic Wheels 2nd place, Will Speed & Kevin Greene were selected to the All-Tournament team, and Javi Rodriguez was awarded Tournament MVP!

As I previously mentioned, the team is scheduled for an Exhibition game on February 4th at Forest Lake Academy in Apopka. We will be supporting a community initiative to fundraise for wheelchairs. The Chair the Love organization is raising funds to provide 280 wheelchairs for underprivileged persons. You are all cordially invited to attend!
